A summer's fall

After a summer's sun,
After a long drop in the bay
After wrong shadows seemed well-met,
Upon the table dazzling with cut-glass,
For a dazzling slow drive in the Rolls
After a squinting sight for a diamond ring.

After a Midsummer's holiday,
After sticky with cars,
Sticky with tar,
Sticky with sweat,
After parting through the trees,
Ants on the pavement.

Following you,
Following you,
A Summer's lasting sun,
After long shadows well-met,
Cry me a river,
Well-met.
